A surge of unseasonable heat is sweeping across the west, with record-breaking temperatures in the forecast continuing through the weekend. A strong ridge of high pressure will settle over the region and dominate, trapping warm air and sending temperatures soaring 10-20° above average. More records fell for areas of the Southwest on Saturday, but at least Phoenix and Tucson's high wasn't 100°!On Sunday, the record-breaking heat shifts into parts of Texas and New Mexico as the upper-level ridge builds east.

Get ready for a warm few days ahead—and maybe a few surprise electric bills, too, the long-range forecast maintains higher confidence in temperatures remaining above average for some spots in Texas and Louisiana.
